Thank you!

A huge thanks to everybody who came along and supported the inaugural Royal Park Festival yesterday. We had a great day and it was fantastic to see so many people experiencing and loving Royal Park – particularly those who hadn’t been there before. I would like to think that we were successful in our aim of raising the profile of Royal Park, highlighting the many many different ways it is invaluable to its users, and celebrating as a great asset for Melburnians.

I would also like to thank the incredibly talented and hard working people and groups who played a role in helping make what was a vague idea just a few months ago into a reality and paving the way for future festivals to come. I would like to acknowledge the support of:

The festival wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance given by, and the time and effort put in by, all these committed individuals and groups. I am so incredibly grateful for their support.

I look forward to the Royal Park Festival coming back bigger and better (and with slightly more lead time and funding) in 2015, to continue the celebration of what is a tremendous asset for all those who use it.

Festival program announced!

What you’ve all been waiting for: the festival program for the day, including our full bands line-up and all the other activities that you can take part in.

Of course, you can sit back and relax at any point during the Festival and take in the beautiful surroundings, or go and explore by yourself (we’ll have self guided tour brochures created by Melbourne City Council). Plus there’s heaps of food on offer when you can find a spare moment!

Volunteer at the Royal Park Festival!

We’re seeking volunteers to help out at the Festival this Saturday (!!!).

Your role as volunteer would involve either:

  • helping set up the event
  • helping visitors find their way to the festival from other parts of the park or from public transport stops/stations.
  • helping pack up at the end of the day

There will be one of three volunteer time slots you’d be allocated to:

  • 11:00am-1:15pm
  • 1:00pm-4:15pm
  • 4:00pm-7:00pm

This is a great opportunity to meet other likeminded people who are passionate about Melbourne’s public open space.

Just fill out this form to let us know you’re interested, and we’ll be in touch!

Royal Park Festival organiser Alexander Sheko was interviewed a few days ago on the Yarra BUG (Bicycle Users Group) show on 3CR Community Radio.

You can listen to the whole show here or skip to the 11:05 minute mark to listen to Alexander speak about Royal Park Festival and other things that Students Linking Melbourne Sustainably have been up to.

Thanks to Yarra BUG and 3CR for their support of Royal Park Festival!

More bands!

In addition to the bands already announced, we’re pleased to tell you that Melbourne locals Wire Bird (see video above) and Yoleo, which comprises musicians from the Victorian College of the Arts, are joining our lineup.

Some more bands still to be announced and lineup, as well as the full Festival program, coming soon.

Bring your dog to the Royal Park Dog Show!

aDog1

Ok, so we won’t actually have those fluffy dogs at Royal Park, as sad as that is. But, in recognisance of the fact that Royal Park is a great place to walk and play with your dog, we’ll be including a dog show as part of the Royal Park Festival!

We invite you to bring your dog (or cat, if you really feel like it) to enjoy Royal Park Festival and to show them off in a display of possibly Royal Park’s most energetic and hairy users. We will be judging the winners in categories such as Biggest Dog and Most Removed From Wolf Ancestors, but also invite you to submit your own ideas for categories (they don’t have to be serious!).

More details to be announced, including when during the Festival we’ll be holding it. In the meantime, ideas for categories and donations for prizes are most welcome! Comment here or email us at royalparkfestival@gmail.com.
